Volunteer! Work the Tour

GARDEN TOUR VOLUNTEERS

Your main role is to help in the gardens the day of the tour, stamping tickets, directing traffic, and interacting with garden hosts and guests.  You don’t need to be a gardening expert; you’ll refer questions to your Garden Hosts or Master Gardener on site.  You will also receive a ticket to attend the tour before or after your volunteer time!

HOW TO VOLUNTEER 

1. Sign up to be a volunteer Link.
2. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you as we near the date to provide more details. 
3. The Host-Volunteer meeting will be the Wednesday night before the tour date, normally about 2 hours. You will receive your garden assignment, further instruction, directions of where to park, and to hear from your garden hosts about their garden.
4. Day of the tour 
   • The tour time is divided into two shifts, half to serve in the garden and the half to visit the gardens. 
   • Volunteers will be provided a name tag and EIB apron. 
   • The Garden Liaison will direct to assigned roles and locations  in the garden, generally rotating during shift, assisting guests, stamping tickets, answering questions. 
   • Volunteers will keep an eye out for places in the garden that may be getting overcrowded, if needed, ask people to pause for a bit to slow the traffic down.  
   • Some gardens may need Parking Volunteers. 

• Will be directed to where to station yourself and provided with instructions to where direct traffic. 
• Safety vests will be provided

The Garden Tour Committee works behind the scenes throughout the year to create and organize and promote the Garden Tour. Join and be a part of our enthusiastic team! The committee meets once a month. Below are roles that make up the committee. 

• Garden Tour Chair – Overseas the Tour and keep everything on track 
• Liaison Coordinator – Overseas the Liaisons and all things directly related to the garden
• Garden Liaison Team – Assist Garden Host in preparing for the tour. 
• Volunteer Coordinator – Recruits and coordinates the Garden Tour volunteers 
• Artist Coordinator – Researches and books  for Artists for the garden 
• Musicians Coordinator – Recruits and books  for Musicians for the garden 
• Garden Host Gifts Coordinator – Researches and arranges for garden gift for Hosts 
• Garden Table Bouquet Coordinator – Arranges bouquet for ticket table, to be given to Hosts afterwards. 
• Garden Tree Identification Coordinator – Leads a committee to identify trees in gardens 
• Pre-Garden Tour Coordinator – Coordinates Pre-Garden Tour for Host, Committee and EIB Board 
• Media Coordinator – Coordinates media for event 
• Ticket Sales Coordinator – Arranges for and tracks ticket sales 
• Posters and Banner Coordinator – Coordinates promotional posters and banners 
• Signage Coordinator – Arranges for signage for day event 
• Garden Tour Selection Coordinator – Coordinates the selection of gardens for future tours. 
• Garden Host Advisory Coordinator  – Assists possible future hosts in know what to do to prepare for the tour. 
• Transportation/Parking Coordinator – Determines and arranges for transportation and parking solutions.
